The Spa at The Institute is a specialized medical facility providing "Skin Care That Makes a Real Difference" and housed at The Institute for Aesthetic Surgery. It is an independent unit with clients of its own and patients referred from doctors in the area. The Spa is associated with the office of Dr. John Armitage Rusca and Aesthetic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, PC. John C. Munna, M.D. and Selma Selmovic, M.D. serve as consultants to The Spa along with Johan Moeller Jensen, owner/director of the Caneton Institute and distributor for Beauté Pacifique skin products from Denmark. Dr. Selmovic is owner/developer of the AdvantAge Pharmacy products, a line of antiaging cosmeceuticals produced in Croatia for The Spa.

The Spa is the culmination of more than 25 years of interest in skin care by Dr. Rusca. In its first iteration as Aesthetica Skin Care, Dr. Rusca was one of the first plastic surgeons to utilize a full time aesthetician (there being no medical aestheticians at the time). Thus began several years of research, discovering what was available in the industry at the time to enrich the experience of pre- and postsurgical skin care. The gradual introduction over the years of alpha hydroxy acids, enzyme peels, microdermabrasion, skin treatment LASERS, fotofacials, and other similar modalities has resulted in the current distillation of procedures utilized at The Spa with results that are undreamed of only a few years ago.

Recent developments in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering have resulted in products that make obsolete the use of most of the mechanical treatments of recent years (e.g., microdermabrasion, skin treatment LASERS, Thermage, Fraxel). Nano technology used in the delivery of dermal exciters, antioxidants, and nutrients for the skin has revolutionized the effectiveness of creams used in skin rehabilitation and preservation. Seven of the 30+ creams manufactured by Beauté Pacifique have been nano-engineered to deliver Vitamen A derivatives deep within the dermis of the skin through a "piggy-backing" transport system. Using the industry standard for measuring a product's skin penetration, a skin-scanning ultrasound shows the effectiveness of the engineering and the delivered compounds. Vitamen A derivatives will cause new elastin and collagen to form within the dermis without harming this tissue.

Dr. John Armitage Rusca has developed customized protocols for utilizing prescription compounds of chemical exfoliants, skin bleaching agents, along with anti-inflammatories to prepare the skin for dermal excitation and its resultant new collagen and elastin.
