Dr. Rusca is originally from Bossier City, Louisiana, where he graduated with honors from Bossier High School after having been a member of the internationally award winning BHS Band, editor of the Yearbook for 3 years, President of the school and state regional Science Club, artist-in-residence for BHS, and was awarded the American Legion Award among others. He worked as a professional photographer prior to entering undergraduate studies. He completed premedical studies in 2 years at Tulane University and went on to Louisiana State University to graduate with honors, ranked 3rd in the graduating class of 1963. After internship, he served two years as Captain in the United States Air Force following which he returned to New Orleans for his general surgery residency at Charity Hospital, LSU division. There he served as research resident and student teaching resident for the LSU division under Dr. Isidore Cohn. His residency in Plastic Surgery was completed in Pittsburgh at the Allegheny General Hospital and Western Pennsylvania Hospital (now a division of the University of Pittsburgh) under the direction of Dr. John Gaisford. Dr. Rusca served an aesthetic surgery fellowship under the direction of Dr. John Lewis, Atlanta's and the Southeast's most renowned aesthetic plastic surgeon. Upon completion, he was asked to join Dr. Lewis in practice in Atlanta.
Dr. Rusca descends from a long line of fine artists, sculptors, masons, physicians and mercenaries going back to the 12th Century in Northern Italy and Southern Switzerland. His avocation is architectural and interior design. His hobbies include reading, photography and sculpting.
