IAS Surgery Center is a free-standing, independent ambulatory outpatient surgery facility housed at The Institute for Aesthetic Surgery and devoted strictly to aesthetic (cosmetic) plastic surgery. IASSC was conceived as a fully operational outpatient surgery facility with its medical staff confined to Plastic Surgeons doing only cosmetic surgery. It would allow a surgical experience for the patient equal to, and in many ways, better than surgery at any of Atlanta's hospitals or free-standing outpatient facilities. That charter has been met and exceeded.

The need for the facility arose from many years of frustration with current outpatient and inpatient centers which must attempt to be all things to all specialties and therefore unable to be the best for any one type of surgery.  IASSC provides an experience second to none, and does so for patients in an extremely safe and protective environment.  Any aesthetic procedure can be done here under the watchful care of our Plastic Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Nurses, Technicians and PCT's as the Surgery Center provides all the necessary tools and equipment for cosmetic surgery that one requires.

IASSC is not a room in a doctor's office in which minor aesthetic procedures are performed and whose sterility is questionable. This 5000 sq ft unit opened in 1999 after several years of planning and preparation, study and design.

The best elements of outpatient surgery units all over the country were incorporated into the space which ultimately became two fully outfitted operating rooms, a three bed recovery, two nurse's stations, family waiting room, changing rooms, sterile and non-sterile storage rooms, and all the other support areas required for such a large operation. It is a fully accredited (by AAAASF) facility with stringent rules and regulations for the safety of its patients, not the least of which prohibits anyone who is ill or who has a contaminated wound or an infection from entering the unit. Because of this, and scrupulous attention to sterilization of the space, there have been no postoperative infections in the several thousand cases completed here.

Cost to the patient was another consideration when conceiving this facility. After watching patient charges for outpatient surgery escalate almost on a month to month basis (mostly due to the need to spread out the costs of expensive imaging units and other equipment not routinely used in aesthetic surgery procedures), fees for use of IASSC were to be based on actual cost, not prorated for all equipment and supplies. To date the facility charges for IASSC have been the lowest in the "Pill Hill" area.

Anesthesia for our patients is provided only by Anesthesiologists, doctors fully trained to give anesthesia. Our staff of approximately 10 anesthesiologist is supplied by Physician Specialists in Anesthesia of St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta and hand-picked for their experience and expertise in outpatient anesthesia services.
